Councillor’s Death
The death took place at the Fullerton Hospital on Saturday of Cllr. Jack Humphries (63), of 30, Annerley Street, Denaby Main, who has taken a prominent part in the public life of the district since he was elected to Conisborough Council in 1935.
Cllr. Humphries had lived in Denaby Main all his life, and belonged to a very old village family. He had been employed at Denaby Colliery in the underground workings for 48 years. He was President of Denaby Colliery Check-weigh Fund.
For the last 25 years he had been Chairman of the Comrades’ Club Benevolent Fund, and was also a trustee of the Home Coal Carting Committee and a member of the Denaby Y.M.A. Committee.

Other positions he had held were Chairman of the Food Committee and Housing Committee and N.F.S. and Baths Committee. His health had not been good for two years, but he continued in harness almost the last.
He leaves a widow and a grown-up family of eight children, five of whom are married. Two sons are serving with the Forces and a daughter with the A.T.S. Gnr. William Humphries is in the R.A. in Italy and it is four years since he was at home and A/B. Benjamin Humphries has been in the Royal Navy for three years. Miss Mary Humphries is a private in the A.T.S.
