Some New Appointments  –  Women Justices

Mrs Wray is the first permanent women magistrate to sit on the Doncaster West Riding Bench

Mrs. Edith Alice Wray has resided at Conisborough 38 years, during which she has taken a keen interest in social affairs and charitable work.

During the last ten years she has been a member of the 16 sub-committees of the Health Committee of the County Council, and for nine years a member of the County Mental Defectives Committee. She was one of the founders of the Conisborough After-Care Committee, and for some years lady superintendent of the Conisborough Nursing Division. For many years has taken a particularly keen interest in the sick and suffering. Since the inception of the Wath Grammar School she has been the County representative on the Board of Governors and has worked actively for the school. She is a member of the Society of Friends, as is her husband, Mr. H. H. Wray, who is a member of the Conisboro’ Urban Council. Mrs. Wray was born at Oxenhope, near the home of the Brontes.

As a child she was taken by her parents to Scarboro’, and lived there till her marriage. She is a member of the Greater Doncaster League of Nations Union.
