Cruelty to a Pit Pony
Charles Blunt, pony driver at Denaby Main Colliery, was charged with a breach of Special Rules by ill-treating a pit pony on April 14th.
Mr. Hickmott prosecuted, and stated a deputy saw the lad kicking the pony as hard as ever he could. The lad was wearing clogs, and there did not appear to be any reason for so ill-treating the horse.
Mr. Witty, under-manager, said the pony had been unfit for work for some days since its ill-treatment.
Defendant was fined 10s. and costs.
