Cruelty to a Pony at Cadeby

Thomas Cooper, pony driver, of Denaby, was charged with cruelty to a horse at the Cadeby Colliery on 6 November.

For the prosecution it was stated that whilst the defendant was install number 41 he was seen to kick the horse several times in the near side hind leg, with the result that a wound about three quarters of an inch in length was made.

The defendant’s excuse was that the horse trod upon him.

Eli Croxall, under manager’s assistant at Cadeby pit, deposed to having seen defendant kick the animal. He said the horse was all right when it was sent out of the stables.

Defendant, who did not appear, was fined 10/6 and 19/6 costs, or in default 14 days.
