Harold Sergeant (15), Tub-coupler
Crushed by Tubs at Denaby Main
An accident, which unfortunately had a fatal termination, happened to a lad named Harold Sergeant, aged fifteen, at the Denaby Main Colliery on Monday October 15th, who was injured by a set of run-a-way tubs. He was conveyed with all speed to the Fullerton Hospital, but the poor little fellow died on the way.
This is indeed a sad blow for his parents, as the poor little fellow had only recently started working.
The inquest was held on Wednesday October 17th, at the Reresby Arms, by Mr. Dossey Wightman, the evidence showed that the deceased was stopping some empty tubs with a `dick´ when one ran off the rails and crushed him.
A verdict of “Accidental Death” was returned.
