Cyclist’s Death

George A. Logan, whose home address is 2 Leslie Avenue, Conanby, and who will be remembered for his achievements on the cycling track, was buried at Conisbrough last Wednesday.

He met his untimely death in tragic circumstances, being knocked down while cycling to work.

He won the English Cycling Championship in 1939, but his most remarkable ride was perhaps in 1938, when he won the Belle Vue C.C. scratch “50” in 2 hours, 5 mins 39 secs., thus beating what was the course record by five seconds. This ride was an even greater performance than it appears, for he had barely covered a mile when his back wheel pulled over, and in addition to losing time he finished the race on rapidly deflating tyres.

He was 28.
