Damaging a Gas Meter at Conisboro’

A small boy, named George Barker, aged 11 years, of Creswell, but formerly of Conisboro’, was summoned for damaging a gas meter at Conisboro’ on June 5th.

Defendant appeared, and pleaded guilty.

Mr. W. Baddiley prosecuted, and stated that the proceedings were taken by the Conisboro’ Gas Company merely as a warning to people not to damage their gas meters.

In this case the meter damaged was a slot meter.

On Sunday, the 5th inst., the defendant with a number of other children were left at home, and afterwards the meter was found to be damaged. The police-sergeant saw the defendant, who said he had done it by kicking it. The damage, however, could not have been done by a kick, but was evidently an attempt to obtain the money from the drawer.

The defendant, who had nothing to say, was ordered to pay 5s. towards the costs.
