Damaging Fences at Denaby
James Everitt (14), and Thos. Marriott (13). were summoned at the instance of Mr. W. H. Chambers with having damaged certain fences the property of the Denaby Main Colliery Company, and causing damage to the extent of 6d on Feb. 23rd.
Mr. Hickmott prosecuted, and said the summons was issued as a warning, so much damage having been caused lately.
A boy named Birkinshaw said he saw the defendants at a fence at the bottom of Rose’s garden. Everitt forced a railing off and wanted to knock it back, but Marriott would not let him, and broke it off and threw it into the garden. Everitt then went and broke off two more.
A boy named Rose saw Everitt break a railing, and throw it into the garden.
P.c. Carter said there had been a great deal of damage done lately to fences and walls at Denaby.
Marriott’s father said there were eight or nine boys helped to do the mischief, and one of them had given evidence.
Fined 1s. and costs each and the damage.
