Damaging the Police Cells.
John Dooley, collier, of Denaby, was brought up in custody, at the West Riding Police Court, Doncaster, on Monday, on a charge of being drunk at Conisbro’ on Sunday afternoon, and also with wilfully breaking the cell door at the police station, and doing damage to the extent of 5s.
Police-constable Wm. Kendall (stationed at Denaby, in the Rotherham division) stated that from information he received he was on his way to the assistance of the Conisbro’ police. As he was going along the Denaby road he found the defendant laid on the highway drunk and with his clothes all disarranged. The officer got the man on to his feet, when he began to shout and conduct himself in a very disorderly manner, and in the end he had to lock him up. At the police station the prisoner behaved in a very violent manner and broke the cell door.
Prisoner was fined 5s. and 8s. 2d. costs for drunkenness, and 2s. 6d. and 4s. 6d. costs and 5s. damages for breaking the cell door.
