“Dangerous Driving” Summons Dismissed.

At Doncaster on Tuesday, Frederick Greasby, motor driver, of Conisborough was charged with driving a motor’ lorry to the danger of the public on May 30, at Mexborough, and denied the offence.

He was defended by Mr. W. Linsey Crawford.

Hilda Burkinshaw, of Rawmarsh, conductress, of a trackless tram, with whom the defendant’s lorry had collided, said the tram had reached the terminus at Brook Square, and it was being reversed because it could not be completely, turned round on account of road excavations. The tram was reversed a little way.

As there was only a little room at the rear, witness signalled defendant to stop. The lorry was not stopped and was travelling at an excessive speed. It scratched the tram and knocked off a plate.

Harry Burkinshaw, the driver of the bus, and another witness, corroborated this evidence.

Defendant, on oath, said he stopped when signalled, but as he had no signal to proceed, after a minute or two, he went on, when he came near to the tram, it was reversed. Witness pulled up within four or five yards.

The summons was dismissed.
