Daring Burglary at Denaby Main

Several cases of housebreaking have been perpetrated in the vicinity of Denaby during the past two or three years, but none exceeding in the audaciousness of one which took place on Monday during the small hours of Tuesday morning.

Mrs Taylor, the wife of Mr Henry Taylor, Firbeck Street, was awakened by someone in the bedroom, and in her endeavour to arouse her husband, disturbed the thief, who got clear away before the now alarm was raised.

The visitor took a pair of Mr Taylor’s trousers, in which he expected to find something valuable. This was not the case, as they did not contain more than five shillings. It is very fortunate that the night mauauder was so abrubtly disturbed, otherwise, there is reason to believe, the contents of the room would have suffered more seriously.

An entrance to the room had been affected through the window by means of a ladder belonging to the M. S. And L railway company, which had been obtained from under the bridge at, and carried from, Conisborough station.

The burglary is all the more daring owing to the house being adjacent to the main road. It is the one adjoining the butcher’s shop, until recently Mr Taylor’s occupation, but now occupied by Mr Mullins. It is only about a month since Conisborough station was broken into.
