Dataller’s death

The death has been reported to the Doncaster coroner of Michael Fitzgerald (24), a dataller living at 55, Park Road, Conisbrough who died on Tuesday night at 9.35, in the presence of his sister, Delia Fitzgerald.

He was employed at the Cadeby Pit and on March 2 returned home from the night shift at 6:30 am. He then complained of pains in the head, and went to bed. He slept along with his brother Martin.
He appeared to get worse during the day, and was given a glass of rum. About 7.30 p.m. he got much worse and Dr McClure was sent for.

When he arrived he could only pronounce life extinct.

Prior to 2 March he had not complained, and he appeared to be a healthy man. He had never been attended by a doctor, and in September he enlisted in the Army, but was discharged as medically unfit a month later.

The coroner decided that no inquest was necessary
