Death of Duke of Clarence and Avondale

By the death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale, which took place early yesterday morning at Sandringham the entire nation is plunged into the deepest sorrow. On the eve of his marriage with Princess May, and with a brilliant future before him, the untimely end of the young Duke will be universally regretted. The faults and foibles of his father, the Prince of Wales, will, we are sure, be forgotten in the present sad affliction, and the heart of the entire nation will go out to the Prince and his beloved wife, the Princess Alexandra, and the profoundest sympathy will be felt for them in their poignant sorrow.

From the first the symptoms attending the Dukes illness have been of the gravest character, and the bulletins issued on the day preceding his death were full of the darkest forebodings. The circumstances attending the Dukes death are of the most pathetic description, and the most callous must feel the greatest sorrow for his bereaved parents and the lady who so soon was to have been wife.

In the heyday of his youth it has pleased an all-wise Providence to take him from amongst us, and peer and peasant will unite and extend their profoundest sympathy to those most nearly connected with his Royal Highness who have to mourn his untimely loss.
