Death of Mr.Brocklesby
The death occurred in hospital last Friday after a short illness of well-known Conisbrough businessman Mr Harold Brocklesby (71).
Mr. Brocklesby, of 37, Holywell Lane, Conisbrough, had been taken to Doncaster Infirmary as a result of an illness which, occurred quite suddenly the weekend previous to his death. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Eleanor Brocklesby, two married daughters, a son, and a grand-daughter.
The funeral service and cremation took place at Doncaster Rosehill Crematorium on Wednesday.
One of the four sons of a Conisbrough grocer and Magistrate. Mr. Brocklesby had lived in the village all his life. He was educated at Mexiborough Secondary (now Grammar) School and went on to read chemistry at Sheffitid University until the outbreak of the World War, in which he served with South Staffordshire Regiment.
In peace time he began a private practice as an accountant and insurance agent, a profession which was to occupy the rest of his working life. He practised from an office in Holywell Lane.
For some time he was in partnership with his brother, the late Mr. George Brocklesby. Another brother, the late Mr. John Brocklesby was a teacher and missionary, and the only surviving brother, Mr. Philip Brocklesby, now of Tealby, Lincs. is a partner in Brocklesby and Wright, the Conisbrough chemists.
Mr. Harold Brocklesby was a Rotarian of long standing. A past president and secretary of Doncaster Rotary Club, he was particularly interested in the movement’s Vocational Service. He was active in Rotary right up to his death and attended his last meeting only two weeks ago.
He was also a past chairman of Sheffield Cinematograph Exhibitors’ Association and had connections with several South Yorkshire cinemas, including that at Thurnscoe.
Mr. Brocklesby’s daughters, who were both married in 1964, are Mrs. Ann Bell, wife of a Derbyshire doctor, and Mrs. Elizabeth Osborne, whose husband is an accountant with the Electricity Board in London.
Mr. Brocklesby’s son, Ian is a 23-years-old graduate of Durham and Liverpool Universities, and is now working as a research executive with an advertising agency,
There is one grandchild. Caroline, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bell.
