Death of the Conisborough Town Cryer

The death of Mr Thomas Fearn took place early on Monday morning last, at the “Pinder’s house,” Conisborough, at the age of 71 years.

Deceased was one of the oldest residents in Conisborough. During his lifetime he had followed various vocations, but for the last few years has been town Cryer and Pinder, being appointed to that post by the Lord of the Manor (Lord Yarborough) on the death of the late Mr John Barrow.

By the death of Mr Fearn , the post of town Cryer and Pinder becomes vacant, and there is likely to be some competition for the situation.

The “Pinder’s House” was repaired throughout prior to Mr Fearn’s acceptance of  the offer. Deceased was always prominent in horticultural matters, and the Conisborough chrysanthemum Show was for many years heartily supported by him.

Mr Fearn, was much respected, was always admired for his fearless outspokenness, and in his early days he was well-known for his proverbial humour.

A widow and grown-up family of five daughters and one son survive.

The funeral took place at the cemetery yesterday (Thursday) in the presence of a large number of friends and relations
