Conisbrough
Defrauding the Railway Company.

Richard Fox, joiner, Rotherham, was summoned on a charge of riding on the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway without a ticket on 1 July.

James Monks, Porter at the Conisbrough station, stated that on the arrival of the 1145 train at Conisbrough, on June 30 he was collecting tickets and found the defendant in a third class compartment. He appeared partly sleep and partly drunk, and on his refusing to produce his ticket, the train was delayed nearly 5 minutes. He was eventually ejected, and it was found that he had a ticket from Sheffield to Rotherham, and witness asked for the difference. Defendant refused to pay it, and he was eventually locked up.

Defendant said he fell asleep at Sheffield, and went further than intended

The case was not pressed, and he was ordered to pay the costs, which amounted to 17s 7d.
