A 21-years-old Conisbrough girl has been accepted for a place at Cornell University, in the United States, to study for her Doctorate in Economics.
Miss Jane Humphries, a former Mexborough Grammar School pupil, was offered a place at Washington and Chicago Universities but Cornell was her preference.
She is at present reading Economics at Cambridge University where she should complete her graduation course on June 27th. She can then make a final decision whether to stay at Cambridge to obtain her Ph.D. or broaden her experience in the States. Jane is the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Humphries of 5 North Cliff Road, Conisbrough.
Her father is a Manvers Coal Board worker and her mother a Denaby Balby Street schoolteacher.
