Denaby and Cadeby Cricket Club.
Relying On Young Blood
New Fixtures.

The annual meeting of the Denaby and Cadeby cricket club was held last Thursday at the Welfare Institute, Denaby Main, Mr. H. Hulley presiding.

The following officials were elected for the ensuing season: president, Mr. W. H. Chambers; secretary, Mr. G. T. Worthington; captain, first-team, Mr. H. C. Harrison; Vice-captain, Mr. R. C. Higgins; captain, second-team Mr. W. E. Wathy; vice-captain, Mr. B. B. Clarkson.

The chairman emphasised the need for the younger members of the club to come forward and give wholehearted support. The club intended to depend more and more upon its young blood rather than import players. He congratulated the second 11 on their performance last season in winning the Divisional championship of the Doncaster league and hoped that next year they will go further and win the full championship. In view of the excellent results achieved during the last two seasons he thought the policy of the club in providing a coach had been fully justified, and he hoped it would be continued. He expressed regret that the club were about to lose the service of the brothers Appleyard, who had given splendid assistance, but unfortunately were to leave in the district. He accept on behalf of the club, a prize from Mr. Tom. Hadfield, for the most improved fieldsman in the second 11.

The secretary (Mr. G. T. Worthington), in his report, reviewed the season 1925, and said one of its most gratifying features was the weather. Not one of the Yorkshire’s council fixtures was materially inferred with by rain. The batting of the first team was hardly to the recognised Denaby standard and on four occasions the team were dismissed for less than a hundred. In 1924 the team never failed to reach three figures.

The second XI were to be congratulated on winning their divisional championship and although they failed in the final, circumstances were rather against them.

The junior players will be glad to know that the rule had now been altered so as to assure to divisional champions medals for their performance.

They were hoping to have the assistance of most of the players who turn out for them last season with the notable exceptions of A. Vollans and the brothers Appleyard. Vollans was now in school at Cheltenham, and would only be available in the last few weeks of the season. The brothers Appleyard, leaving the district, had been a splendid help and the loss of these clever young players meant that the club would be more dependent than ever on those were coming up to take their places.

In the Yorkshire Council last season, the team played 24 matches, won 14, lost 6 and drew 4. They scored 3708 runs for 193 wickets, an average of 19.2. Their opponents scored 3011 runs for 208 wickets and average of 14.4. In the Doncaster league the second team scored 1927 runs for 135 wickets, an average of 14.6, and their opponents scored 1963 runs for 158 wickets, an average of 12.4.

The second team played 20 matches, won 10 lost 5 and drew 5. The team’s prizes were won by the following: first-team batting, I Greenwood, aggregate 674, average 35.4; second-team batting. R. Soar aggregate 161, average 32.6 first-team bowler, F Kennedy 49 wickets for an average of 11: second-team bowling, WR Clark, 66 wickets, for an average of 8.4 centred and approved.
