Denaby and Cadeby Sign New Players

Denaby and Cadeby Cricket Club are forging ahead in the race to sign new players for the next Yorkshire Council season.

This week, a Denaby official announced two further signings, and prophesied, “This could very well be our strongest team in years.”

Signing number one, announced in our last issue was Wombwell all rounder Colin Parker.

Signing number two is ex-Somerset all-rounder Malcolm Walker (32), whose home is at Rotherham. Malcolm played for Denaby the season before last, and headed the club’s 1965 batting averages.

The official went on, “The club committee are extremely pleased to sign this player who was one of the most outstanding opening batsmen in the Yorkshire Council. “We expect him to form a very successful liaison with the present opening bat, Arthur Ellis.”

Recruit number three this is another all-rounder Trevor Harvey. Although yes so far only played Doncaster League cricket, Trevor has great potential for gaining a first team place.

He will probably play alongside his cousin, Desmond Harvey, who joined Denaby and Cadeby last season.

Denaby’s recruiting drive, designed to haul the club back from their doldrums after two of their worst seasons in local sporting industry, is by no means over.

The official said: “We are open to sign a lease three other top-class players, but we cannot disclose names at this stage – everyone will be after them.

“Every year, there is a race to sign new recruits, and in the Yorkshire Council it is a case of every man for himself. Some clubs travel miles in search of players.

“One thing is certain – Our first team next year will undoubtedly be a side with great prospects.”
