Executive Council of Miners Federation Advise Men to Resume Work

Great excitement was because in the district on Saturday by the issue from the Times Offices of the following important news:

“At a late hour on Friday night we are informed on credible authority that the events in connection with the Denaby and Cadeby dispute had taken an unexpected and sensational development, the result of which will be that the men will resume work almost immediately upon the old terms.

A meeting of the Executive Council of the Miners Federation was held at Sheffield on Friday afternoon. Acting on the advice of the legal counsel who conducted the recent legal proceedings in London, the meeting decided to advise the men to resume work on the old terms, and also disapproved of the action of the local leaders in advising the continuance of the strike. The meeting sum and the attendance of the local leaders at a council meeting at Barnsley on Saturday, when it was anticipated that the decision will be officially arrived at to resume work immediately on the old terms.”

“Is it true?” Was the question on nearly everyone’s lips, and it must be stated that the sensational and long expected development gave extreme satisfaction to the great majority of the people. Although the local strike leaders were remarkably reticent on the matter, it gradually became known that the above was substantially correct, and that a conference of the Council will take place on Monday at the Union Offices, Barnsley, to which Mr J Nolan (Denaby Denaby delegate) and H Humphries (the Cadeby delegate) were summoned to attend.

The meeting was convened to especially consider the Denaby dispute, and an important decision was anticipated.
