Second in London Contest

The New Style Swingtette, the Denaby band which recently won the North Britain Dance Band Championship held at Blackpool won fresh laurels at Wimbledon Town Hall on Monday, when they gained second place in the All-Britain Dance Band Championship for amateurs and semi-professionals. The players received a great ovation from the assembled company. T

he band was formed 12 months ago and its players are Allan Moorhouse, (Conisbrough), schoolboy, bass; Donald Parker (Conisbrough), miner, drums; Arnold Perkins (Doncaster), engineer, plano; G. Ryder (Mexborough), miner, guitar; and J. Dunn (Denaby), miner. The average age of the members is 19 years.

Recently the band won the South Lancashire Championship and trophy for the best small dance band and then went on to win the Roland Powell Challenge Cup at Leeds, competing against nine other bands, including two or three broadcasting bands of nine and ten players.
