If Denaby failed find winning cricket and football teams, the sporting public of the district will be proud to acknowledge the fact that they possess one of the best bowling clubs in the district.
The club was formed just over ten years ago, and now comprises a section for both sexes, the women’s section being formed two seasons ago. The men’s section have won the Rotherham League five times and the Kelley Cup three times.
This section have won the same two competitions this year; while, the women have won the Mexborough and District Ladies’ Bowls League, the Montague Cup, and were runners-up in the Fullerton Hospital Cup.
Mr. P. H. Phillips was among the finalists of the “Sheffield Independent” competition, and Mr. F. Vollans, the club secretary, was one of the finalists in the Wath Invitation Competition. Messrs. F. Vollans and A. Holland have not lost a single game at home this season. Mr. H. Higgins has won the club average medal. Mr. P. Phillips holds ten medals for bowls.
