Owing to illness Tommy Hall, of Denaby, and Steve Firman, of Swinton, were unable to appear in their respective bouts at the Miners’ Welfare Baths, Denaby, on Saturday, In the principal bout between Billy Yates, of Mexborough, and Tanty Davies, of Denaby, over eight two-minute rounds, Yates, the more experienced fighter, won on points.

Jack Elkes, of Stainforth proved no match for Sam Faulkner, of Denaby, and retired in the fourth round.

Tommy Duffy (Conisborough, late of Durham) fought a draw – with Tommy Arnott (Mexborough), the verdict being well received.

In the semi-finals of the welter-weight -competition of three two-minute rounds, G. Grainger (Conisborough) beat G. Nixon (Kilnhurst) on points.

Taffy Collins (Conisborough) lost after an extra round to J. O’Neil (Conisborough).
