Denaby Boy falls from House Top

Arthur Webb, 13, of Denaby, was summoned under the Children Act for wilful damage to a water spout one of the houses belonging to the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company.

Mr Frank Allen appeared for the Colliery Company.

On 7 June by Webb was seen climbing the water spout number 68, Balby Street, Denaby. When he got nearly to the top the spout gave way and the boy fell to the ground a distance of nearly 30 foot. He was picked up and taken home for dead.

Arthur Webb, who appeared little the worse for his experience said he was fetching a ball which accidentally got lodged in the spout.

Mr H.L.Smethurst, architect for the Colliery Company, estimated the damage at six shillings. The lad Spencer ordered to pay 6/– damage and 5/6 costs.
