Taylor hits Merrily

Brampton 155 for 8        Denaby 158 for 9

A Taylor 62*; C Pegg 8-68            J Wright 31

It was an exciting game at Brampton on Monday evening. One thing there were only three runs in it, and for another there was quite a long list of individual brilliance. Chiefly, of course, Archie Taylor stole the limelight. A brilliant 62 not out enabled Brampton to put on a useful 155 for 8 wickets, Denton and Dodds hitting 21 each. Taylor it very merrily and but for the run getting Peggs bowling (8 for 68) might have looked more presentable. Allen’s smart stumping was another feature of the Brampton innings.

Denaby opened none too happily, but Wright (31), Smith (17), Broadhead (20), Jones (18) and Wathey (not out 29) were in the picture later and the 158 went up for the loss of nine wickets. There was only a short time to spare.Wright’s innings of 31, which contained six fours, was ended by a brilliant catch by Hesketh.
