Denaby Cricket Club Ball’s

A Record Success

The Denaby and Cadeby Cricket, Tennis and bowls club held their annual ball on Friday evening, when, in every way, the popular event was a huge success.

A very large company assembled in the Large Hall, and the attendance constituted a record. Nearly 250 people were present, and there was a brilliant display of colour, there being some charming dresses. The taste in colour was in a light direction, and the majority of the costume were of a light and delicate shade. The most popular was cream, and the lighter shades of pink, though, in contrast to these, were several very striking dresses of deeper colour which afforded a very brilliant contrast. The ball was well lighted, and the company was not congested, there being ample floor space.

The programme of dancers has undergone a change from the last Ball. The modern tendency in dancing seems to be for a revival of the valse, but at Denaby the programme contain more FoxTrots and one steps than the stately valse. The chase of Denaby are evidently not in accordance with the recent tendency to return to the valse, but evidently favours a foxtrot more than the former. The dance programme consists of some 24 dances, of which only seven were valses.

The Doncaster Picture House Orchestra had been engaged, and their play met with general approval, several dancers being repeated in response to the applause.

During the interval and excellent support provided was admirably served. The committee response for the ball arrange the catering themselves, and their work was fully appreciated and the supper thoroughly enjoyed.

Mr GL Robinson was the secretary for the ball, and in this capacity he was assisted by Mr Narroway (assistant secretary.) The M.C.s were Messrs H.C. Harrison, W Still, H Whitlam, FG Ogley, W Widdowson and H Clemson.

The ball was an unqualified success, and was easily a record.
