In Low Scoring Match at Denaby
Seven Runs Margin

Denaby 102   Bentley 95

The better of two weakened sides won at Tickhill Square, when Denaby defeated Bentley by seven runs on Saturday

E. Wainwright, the Denaby captain, was delayed, and went in late in the innings, being unbeaten at 16, Boot partnering Greenwood as opening batsman.

Wright soonsettled down, but at 51 his partnership Greenwood was broken when the latter after contributing 16, was bowled by Broadhead. Bateson and Wright carried on to 66 when the former played into the hands of C. Maddison off Bunting after scoring nine. Without any further addition to the total Wright, who had so batted finely, was caught by Wigglesworth off Broadhead with 34 to his credit.

Hobson, a newcomer to the side, had scored a couple when he gave Sherman a catch and Broadhead his fourth wicket. At this period Broadhead began to play havoc with the Denaby batsmen. He sent down seven seven overs (five maidens) to claim 5 for 5 Hobson, Hough, Porter, Allen and Dale falling to him. Wainwright was the only one to defy Broadhead, who finally took eight for 27. Bunting had the other 2 for 3 .

Denaby’s position seemed rather hopeless when the brothers Maddison, who opened for Bentley, got together to put on 40 for the first wicket. H Maddison. after scoring 25, was run out. At 46 Porter bowled Chambers and subsequently dismissed Fletcher. At 55 Wright took a difficult catch off Porter to dismiss C. Maddison for 17, and three wickets fell quickly before W. Maddison came to defy the bowlin of Porter and Wainwright. But the two bowlers dismissed the remaining batsmen cheaply. W. Maddison carried his bat or 25, including four fours. For Denaby, Porter took 6 for 37 and Wainwright 3 for 32. Scores:
