Shiregreen’s opening match in the Yorkshire Council provided them with a thrilling four wickets victory at Denaby, where they were facing a Denaby total of 161, featuring an unbeaten innings of 96 by J Munden. A Ellis hit 31. E. Gyte took two for 39 and J Marriott two for 40.

Shiregreen’s opening batsmen put up a magnificent stand. Skipper J Thompson scored 55 and Harold Pears 46, after which I Goodwin carried on to make 34 not out in Shiregreen’s total of 166 for six.

Denaby’s best bowling was from Richards (four for 37)
