There was a delay for 43 minutes at Denaby on Saturday, rain falling heavily. Out of the remaining period Frickley were at the wicket about 150 minutes, which left Denaby with 110 minutes to rub off the runs.

The first 50 appeared after 45 minutes, most of them being boundary shots. An hour’s play produced 70 run and only two wickets had fallen. The 100 appeared after 78 minutes, then followed a spell of lively meeting by Burkinshaw and Dyson, who took the score to 156 before being parted, Dyson sending a catch to Wainwright when he had scored 50.

One Run Later

One run later Wainwright sent up a full toss for Burkinshaw and the ball landed into the hands of Batty on the boundary. Then followed a lull in the batting. Frickley had six wickets down for 157. The last four wickets added 31 and of these Seagrave got 25. The innings closed at 191. For Denaby, Wainwright took 4 wickets for 56 runs, Laughton 2 for 39, Porter 1 for 20 and Pegg 1 for 46. Laughton is a young life arm fast bowler from Bawtry who, last season took 100 wickets in the Doncaster League.

A sensation marked the opening of the Denaby innings. The first over Greenwood played on before the scored with only single on the board. Wright, on joining Wainwright, hit lustily, but at 35, Wainwright failed to get hold of a slow spin delivery from Ward to give Swift an easy chance at square leg. Another sensation followed when Batty was bowled by Ward before he had scored. Denaby had then three wickets down for 36. Then Wright and Foster got together, Wright doing practically all the scoring while Foster kept his end up. At 95 Wainwright was caught in two minds of the ball glanced off his bat onto his wicket. He had been at the wicket 55 minutes for his 59. He scored 8 boundaries. It appeared Foster and Allen were going to give Denaby victory, but at 143 Allen was given out lbw off Hatfield after he had scored a sharp 19. Laughton and Foster also had a go for the runs, but time came with only 165 for 7 on the board, Foster being 30 not out and Laughton 16 not out.
