Stairfoot succumb to Denaby

Denaby 173 for 5  Stairfoot & Ardsley 169

Stairfoot acquitted themselves with credit against Denaby, albeit they did not prove equal to checking the latter’s conquering careers. The batting of the wooden spoonists surprised the visitors,’s bowlers who experienced unexpected difficulty in dismissing the side.

Thanks primarily to Lawton (65), H white (30), and Watson (39), Stairfoot ran up the exceedingly good score of 169, quite one of the best aggregates put up against Denaby this season.

Bury came to the rescue of the regular Denaby bowlers, and secured five wickets. With such a good score against them, Denaby might easily have had to put up with a draw, but the visitors, realising the importance of a single point, went in for aggressive tactics, and brought up another good two, this time by their respectable margin of five wickets. Quite a pleasing feature of the Denaby batting was consistency shown; two 35’s, by Bury and L. Robinson respectively being top numbers in a record of 173 for five wickets. Denaby are certainly hot stuff in all departments of the game.
