Denaby 174 Mexborough 102
Sam Kennedy enabled Denaby to give Mexboro’ a trouncing on Saturday at Tickhill Square Mexborough appeared to have the fairly easy task of scoring 175 in 2 hours. As it was the match was over an hour before the allotted time.
Denaby, who were without Greenwood and Tibbles, started weakly, but Vollans and Pattison pulled them round. Still, when the fifth wicket fell Denaby were only 104. Ambler bowled a good length, and White also bowled well. Dennis Laister, who took the last two wickets, finished with 3 wickets for 13.
Kennedy started at the opening of the Mexborough innings to bowl at a great speed and he quickly got Kilner’s wicket. When Len Palmer dismissed Burkinshaw a few minutes later Mexboro’ had lost two valuable wickets for 9 runs. Senior, who up to that time had not scored a run, put up stout resistance and the total reached 75 before Kennedy, after a rest, returned to spread-eagle Senior’s stumps.
Kennedy was almost unplayable during the last threequarters of an hour, when the last five wickets ached only 23 runs, and Mexboro’ were beaten by 72 runs. Kennedy in this spell took 5 wick is for 11 runs. His complete figures were:
10.5 overs: 4 maidens: 43 runs: 6 wickets. Len Palmer took 4 for 30.
