Probert and Hutchinson

Help Hickleton to Win

Hickleton brought off another victory at Denaby, but were fortunate to do son.  Steady batting by Denaby realised 191 for four, but Hickleton’s opening batsmen started badly and it fell to Probert and Hutchinson to hit out and get the runs.

Lieut. Sale was at the wicket nearly an hour and a half before getting his 50.  He then had the misfortune to lose the heel of his boot when attempting a run, fell down in mid-wicket and was run out after making 62.  Pte. Codd improved the rate of scoring, and his 74 included nine fours.  Denaby’s 191 for four was scored in two and a half hours.

A draw seemed inevitable until Probert and Hutchinson got together, and made a third wicket stand.  Hickleton won with twenty minutes to spare.
