Century Stand

Denaby and Cadeby’s Arthur Ellis (55) and Walt McDonnald (82) put on an 110 for the second wicket in the Yorkshire Council victory over Cortonwood. Opener Jones was bowled for a single, but then these two batsmen settled down to well and truly cook Cortonwood’s goose. There were several missed chances – Ellis was dropped twice behind the wicket early on – and poor ground fielding by Cortonwood, and six bowlers had little success.

After a succession of boundary hits, Philip Wrightson and Brian Exley were more successful in keeping the scoring rate down, and Wrightson was a most successful bowler with four for 65.

For Denaby and Cadeby R Cory scored 27 not out, N Oakley 17 and D Haverty 13. The side declared at 216 for seven.

In Cotrtonwood’s reply of 134, top scorer was young John Walters with 29, while his father Henry Walters carried his bat for 21. Clive Baxter made 19, David Layne 17 and R Schofield 14. Wickets went to R Cory (two for 31), R Lawley (two for 33) and A Hough, N Oakley and A Dobbs claimed one each.
