Missed Chances

“Epidemic” at Tickhill Square

It was an afternoon of missed catches at Denaby on Saturday when Sheffield Collegiate were the visitors. The home team batted first and the opening pair, Greenwood and Robinson, were both missed in the first over. The second miss proved costly for Robinson went on to get 36. His partner soon went and Wright, who followed, was also missed in his first over. This was another costly miss for he contributed 37 which included 23 singles. After this there was a minor collapse but when Mountney and Downing got together the score began to mount again and both passed the thirty mark, Collegiate eventually being faced with a score of 219 for 9 declared.

Collegiate started shakily but a third-wicket stand by Carr and Branson put on 90 valuable runs. The Denaby bowlers then got on top and seven wickets were down for 126, but Maddocks and Buck added 45 in playing out time. Allen, the home stumper, missed four catches, but to some extent made up for these lapses by catching Carr, who in his stylish 41 hit 6 fours. Scores:
