Another Draw
Denaby 239 for 8 Tankersley 145 for 7
E Tibbles 48, R Carlin 61, G Robinson 53* S Kennedy 4 wkts
A good attendance saw a fluctuating game on a good wicket at Denaby on Saturday. Denaby should have scored another victory. Tibbles and Greenwood opened and Jones slung down some fast stuff. At seven Tibbles had a “life,” Gregory missed a sitter, and in gratitude Tibbles added nearly 50 runs. Tibbles got 13 and Wainwright 1 off Barnes first over, but that bowler beat both batsmen later. The 100 was reached in 70 minutes. Six Wickets fell for 100. Then came a stand by the veterans, Carlin and Robinson, who collared the bowling and put on 82.
With his first ball Sam Kennedy bowled Greaves, and with his last ball of the same over did the same with Gregory. Ivill and Holbrook stop the rot, and Ivill went merrily on changing the trend of the game. The score was 101 when the fourth wicket fell. Then there was again a collapse, the fifth and six wickets falling at 103, and Denaby had visions of victory. The seventh wicket went at 126 and hopes went higher, but Ruddlsdin and Fenton played time out. There would have been a different tale if Harrison had held a ball Ivill cut into the slips when he was 45, or had Shoesmith not missed Barnes and Ruddlesdin in the slips when the total was 110. Denaby’s fielding was not so smart as usual.-
