South Yorkshire League
Denaby And Cadeby 50 Rawmarsh 83
Played at Denaby on Saturday.

The match was not noticeable for any extraordinary scoring, but was remarkable for the length of time which was taken up in the compiling of the Rawmarsh score of 83. This score took the Rawmarsh men upwards of two hours to compile, and this was no fault of the batsmen, for the bowling was far too good for them to take any liberties with.

In Crummack, Denaby have got hold of an excellent bowler, and if only he is worked in a proper manner, Denaby should win a match or two.

The Denaby captain made the mistake of keeping him on too long on Saturday. He bowled throughout the whole, of the Rawmarsh innings, and sent down 28 overs, and that he would have done with a rest is shown by the fact that the best part of the last 46 runs were scored off his bowling. Cook played a good innings, hitting out in his usual plucky style. Taylor and John Allott each added valuable scores to the total, both being at the wicket for over 30 minutes for their respective runs.

Denaby started badly, Moore being out for a duck. Palmer, however, hit out in good style, and seemed to relish the fast bowling. Payling now took Parkin’s place, and bowled Palmer with his first ball, Routledge being beautifully caught in the slips soon after by Lister. Parkin now bowled in place of Lister, and the Denaby men soon began to leave. Lister again distinguished himself by taking another fine catch, and Parkin had three wickets in one over. Payling now made a sad mess of Massey’s wicket, and then very cleverly caught Riley off Parkin’s bowling. Westwood was all at sea with Payling’s bowling, and did not stop long, and the new man – Crumack – seemed very anxious to have a go at Payling, and he was given every opportunity of doing so; and of course when he did get hold of one there was a man waiting for it, and Denaby were all out for 50 runs.
