Lowest of The Season
Denaby Lose to Firbeck
Denaby 69 Firbeck 71 for 5
Denaby compiled their lowest score of the season when losing by six wickets to Firbeck Main at Denaby, but their defeat may in some measure be attributed to the fact that they had six reserves.
Denaby had only four runs on the board when Wright was bowled for a “duck” by Hare, his first failure this season, and in the same over Berry received the same medicine as Wright before he had scored. The next over saw Wainwright given out LBW to Hare after scoring six. Denaby lost their first six batsmen for 22 runs and would not have scored more than 40 had it not been for the patience of Pattison, who alone defied the Firbeck bowling. He made the top score of 29 which included three floors out of Denaby’s total of 69. He was the only batsmen to reach double figures. The nearest approach to double figures was Laughton’s seven. For Firbeck, Smith took two wickets for 17 runs, Hare four for 37 and Hutchinson 3 for 8.
Sherwin, who opened Firbeck’s innings carried his bat for 27, including four fours. Firbeck knocked off the necessary runs for the loss of five wickets.
