Exciting Finish At Denaby
Denaby & Cadeby 84 Sheffield United 85 for 9
An exciting finish was seen at Tickhill Square, where Denaby lost by a wicket to Sheffield United. After Denaby had been dismissed for 84, and it appeared as if an easy victory was certain, but a double change in bowling brought about a collapse. Springthorpe, a newcomer to the Denaby side, and Wardle shared in the destruction, and Sheffield had eight wickets down for 81. The ninth should have fell at 81 but for a fielding slip. When Sheffield’s last man went in one run was needed and Wragby made the winning hit.
Poole (26) and Robinson (24) were Denaby’s best batsmen, while Springthorpe took 4 for 15 and Wardle 4 for 44. For Sheffield United; Lee (24), Cummings (26 not out) Bottomley (22), scored best. N. Wragg had 3 for 12 and the Rev. H. Kirksmith 4 for 42. Allen, Denaby’s wicket keeper had a share in dismissing four batsmen.
