That Man Again! – White Takes Seven

Elsecar 135  Mexborough 84

A snappy spell by Sydney Lloyd and L./W. Howden entertained spectators at Elsecar on Saturday. when Elsecar put on 135, before Mexborouch were foiled by ‘Bob White, making only 84. Lloyd had seven boundaries in his score of 37 and Howden added 24 runs. Frank Sylvester and G. Goldthorpe were next best with 19 each. Howarth claimed five Elsecar wickets for 32 runs and Vickers collected three for 32. With 20 runs to his credit, C. Hayes was the top scorer for Mex borough.

Bob White dismissed seven Mexborough batsmen for 44 runs and Howden reaped in two for 27.

Close Finish At Wath – Last Batsman Decides

Wath 152  Rockingham  153 for 9

Wath and Rockingham provided an interesting game for cricket fans Saturday at Wath on Saturday and Rockingham won in a close finish.

  1. Heaton and J. C. Heaton made 18 and 12 respectively in opening for Wath but four wickets fell quickly and a fifth wicket stand of 76 was made by C. Sage (36) and S. Ellis (44). J. Swinburne’s 26 not out helped the score to 152. Morrell (4 f or 21) and Vickers (3 for 23) were Rockingham’s best bowlers.

Rockingham also started badly, losing five of their wickets for 411 runs, and it was Walker (50), and Moxon (41),who made a stand before being dismissed by C. Heaton, who made two splendid catches. The scores were level when the last two Rockingham batsmen took the field, and after two narrow escapes Wass got the third through the fielders to give Rockingham victory. Beecham had 5 for 44 and Wilson 3 for 17 for Wath.

Another Denaby Reverse

South Kirkby Take The Points

Denaby & Cadeby 169  South Kirkby 170 for 5

Denaby and Cadeby met with another reverse, losing at home by five wickets to South Kirkby. Denaby were without two of their best players K. Rossington and Pegg and their bowlers failed to make any impression, and most of their total of 169 was obtained by their tail end.

The Denaby bowler failed to dislodge Fletcher (81 not out, including 12 fours). South Kirkby 170 for five wickets. Other scorers for South Kirkby were Trusswell (21) Haigh (18) and Hobson (21 not out while for Denaby, Greened Porter (23) Porter (19 not out) and Allen (28) were outstanding.

For South Kirkby, Cupitt had four for 31, and for Denaby, Porter took two for 32.

 

First Win This Season

Bolton 130   Darfield  121

Bolton registered their first win of the season against Darfield last Saturday. Bolton’s “double figure men were Bullock (33), Lunn (27) Barnes (15) and Horner (13) and the total was 130.

For Darfield, Bladen (51), Hartigan (12) and Fisher batted well, and helped the total to 121. Hughes had five for 24 and Hartigan four for 44 for Darfield, and for Bolton, Barnes had four for 40 and Lunn four for 33.

A Win for Mitchells

Lundwood 82  Mitchell Main 141

Mitchells Main made 141 (A. Moore 27, A. Cooling 11, E. Evans 22, J. Senior 18, S. Jessop 14) against the bowling of A. Deakin (four for 8), at Monk Bretton on Saturday.

  1. Senior took seven for 33 for Mitchells in reply and Lundwood’s only ” double figure ” men were A. Siamforth (23) and C. Hardcastle (14) in a total of 82.
