Disappointing Batting.
Denaby Shape Badly at Firbeck.
Denaby gave a most disappointing batting display when they visited Firbeck on Saturday and were all out for 102, a total which Firbeck passed with six wickets in hand. The Firbeck bowlers who upset the visiting batsmen were Hare (4 for 43) and H Smith (5 for 56), and only Wright played them with any confidence, and he did not stay for long.
On the whole the later Denaby batsmen did better than those from whom runs might have been expected, but the visitors had not the bowlers to save the game after such a moderate batting display. Mountney and Reville achieved some early success, but Billy Larke came in to make an unbeaten 40, and with Hare, carried the score to 103 for 4 wickets.
