Tibbles Just Misses the Half-Century
Firbeck 127 Denaby & Cadeby 76
W Maddison 40; S Wild 5-41 E Tibbles 45; W Larke 4-2
Denaby visited Firbeck in the opening game of the season, and were beaten after dismissing the home side for 127.
Firbeck made an indifferent start, the first five men all being out before their individual scores had reached double figures. Hare’s dozen improved matters a little and invaluable contributions by Maddison and Wheatley, who secured 40 and 21 respectively, gave the total a much better appearance.
Denaby fared even worse than the home team and were all out for 76. Although Tibbles (picture) obtained 45, the highest score of the afternoon, the other batsmen were completely baffled by the bowling of Larke and Wheatley and they only managed to compile 25 between them, there being six extras.
Larke secured four wickets at a cost of only two runs each, while for Denaby Wild took 5 for 41.
