Whirlwind Stand
Helps Denaby to Complete Double
Denaby completed the double over Frickley Colliery by beating them by 88 runs at South Elmsall. A whirlwind fourth wicket partnership by J Wright (69), and K. Rossington (60), had much to do with the success.
Getting together when the first three men had been sent back for 19, the pair hit 86 in 38 minutes. Wright having a six and 13 fours to his credit before being bowled b G. Capstick, and Rossington a six and nine fours, when he was l.b.w. to a ball by J. Britton. W. Holland (11), was the only other Denaby man to reach double figures, and the innings closed at 163, J. Britton taking 4 for 11, K. Govier 3 for 37, A. Ward 3 for 9, and G. Capstick 1 for 24.
Frickley made an even worse start by losing their first three men for only six runs. C. Ogley (11) and A. Ward (23), put on 40 for the fourth wicket but were unable to stem the tide as effectively as the Denaby couple had done and the whole side, weakened by the absence of Banks, Farrow and Cox, was out for 75. G. Porter took 4 for 22, W. Holland 3 for 4, E. Robinson 2 for 20, and K. Rossington 1 for 22.
