Ellis’s 79

Mexborough 177 Denaby & Cadeby 178 for 3

Mexborough lost their return match with Denaby on Monday for one reason only – bad fielding and inability to return the ball accurately.

Mexborough were all out for 177 and Denaby replied with 178 for 3. The spectators, including a strong contingent from Denaby, were entertained to some delightful cricket. Denaby opening bat Arthur Ellis scored 79 not out. After a cautious opening, he brightened up considerably and drove Barron hard through the covers for four, followed by a two and another four. His partner then was J Richards. After Richard had scored 30 in 80 minutes, Ellis was joined by R Cory (picture) and together they took the score to 176 before Cory was out trying to make the winning hit. Top scorer for Mexborough was J Wightman (54) and E Cadman and H Vickers had 33 each. R Cory took three for 37.
