The most surprising result was that between Denaby and Rawmarsh, on the latter’s ground, when the Rawmarsh team played havoc, with the visitors, beating them hollow.

The visitors arrived with a full team and apparently with the intention of putting the Rawmarsh fellows to sleep, but again they were mistaken. Denaby are about the most erratic team in the league, for after getting Rotherham out for a meagre 16, they go and let a team like Rawmarsh – who this year have also played erratically – beat them in hollow fashion.

Be said, however, that Rawmarsh had proved the stumbling block to the other teams this season, and when in form they are tough customers to tackle. Batting first Rawmarsh made a bad start, the three first batsmen only making eight between them. A most useful stand, however, was made by Bratley and Machin, who made 25 and 27 respectively, Lancashire made 16, and H Parker 13. The innings terminated for 105, which is really only an average score for Denaby. Luther Robinson took four wickets for 23, and Scott four for 23.

Then came the surprise of the afternoon. Outram and Nixon shared the bowling, and had the Denaby batsmen always in difficulty. George Hardy, the 10^th man, was the highest scorer with 15 to his credit, the only other man to reach double figures being “Billy” Smith, who made 10. The total was a miserable 45, and the following analysis speak for itself: – H. Outram, 8.3 overs, one maiden, 14 runs, six wickets, A. Nixon, 8 overs. 0 maidens, 31 runs, three wickets.
