Another Win for Denaby

Rossington  122  Denaby & Cadeby  123 for 9

W Widdison 53              I Greenwood 53

Denaby, who up to last Saturday, when they easily defeated Bentley, had been having a lean time won again on Saturday, Rossington being their opponents on this occasion.

Denaby’s win was not so decisive the previous week’s victory and they had only one wicket in hand when the Rossington total of 122 was passed. Denaby did well to get rid of Vollans before he had scored, for the ex-Denaby man has played many sound innings this season. He was caught by Patterson off Springthorpe, who took 3 Rossington wickets for 26 runs. Of the earlier Rossington batsmen, Stanley and Widdison both made respectable scores and Jepson also made a useful contribution, but the rest of the batting was of an indifferent standard.

Denaby suffered a setback when Ernest Wainwright was run out after he had scored a dozen runs, but Greenwood was not so easy to dislodge and gathered 53 by stylish stroke play before he was caught by Harkin. Foster and Criddle offered some resistance later on and Springthorpe and Patterson managed to keep their wickets intact while the Rossington total was passed.
