Denaby Contests.
At the Drill Hall, Denaby Main, on Saturday night, a large crowd witnessed some good contests.
Mr. T. Stokes, the ex-Yorkshire champion,was the referee, and Mr. A. Davies, the timekeeper.
Young Griffin (Denaby) drew with M. Brannan (Dcnaby) who was deputising for Sam Jock, over six rounds.
In the final of the middleweight competition “Kid” Fletcher (Conisboro) drew with G. Smith over three rounds, but by the toss of the coin Fletcher obtained the silver cup.
H.Oldfield (Conisboro’) beat W. Smith (Denaby) over six rounds points. Oldfield led from the first round and scored mostly with his left.
The principal bout of the evening should have been between Joe Leighton (Edlington); and Tommy Hall (Denabv), but the latter was unable to appear owing to illness. J. Smith, of Denaby, deputised and did well but in the sixth round damaged his right hand and retired.
