Denaby Cyclist is ‘Varsity Champion

 

Roy Cromack, 18-years-old eldest son of Denaby Main sub-postmaster, Mr. Harold Cromack, and Mrs. Cromack, of the Post Office, Denaby, who is a science student at Sheffield University, on Sunday became the new Hill Climbing champion of the Universities Athletic Union, when he won the cycling hill climb at Spout Hill, Brantingham, East Yorkshire. With this win he becomes U.A.U. best all-rounder.

Cycling for the Sheffield University cycling section of the U.A.U. he made the 895 yards ascent in 2 mins 42 secs. to win by two seconds from another Sheffield University student. Seven Universities entered for the event and Sheffield came third in the team event behind Durham and Manchester Universities.

Roy arrives with Thorne Paragon C.C.is already 50 miles champion of the universities Athletic Union, and also came third in the 25 miles championship.

Last year on the last day or the cycling season Roy won the Doncaster Wheelers annual interclub hill climb at Burton Stather, near Scunthorpe, leading the winning Thorne Paragon team.
