Denaby Desertion Summons dismissed
Eva Denman summoned her husband, Jas. Henry Denman, at Doncaster, on Tuesday. Mr . Frank Allen was for the wife, and Mr. W. L. Crawford was for the husband.
The wife said they were married in Nov. 1921 and had been unhappy from the first.
Until Sept. 1924, they lived with her parents, and then they got a house in Adwick Street, Denaby, which was furnished by her parents. He had never properly maintained her, and they had lived with the great assistance of her parents. They had two children, their ages being 2 years and 9 months and 18 months. After five months of marriage he deserted her for a time. She had often had to complain about his conduct with other women. On 10th Feb. last she declared that she found him misconducting himself with Mrs. Connor, who, with her husband, was lodging with them. Later he turned her and the baby into the streets, scantily clad. She left him on Feb. 14, and had since lived with her parents.
Alfred Parsons, father of the wife, stated that the husband’s conduct had not been satisfactory. Mr. Connor had been to him and told him about the incident, when his (Connor’s) wife had been caught misconducting herself with Denman, and asked his opinion on the matter.
Defendant totally denied the allegations. He had never misconducted himself with Mrs. Connor, and had never ill-treated his wife. He left her soon after their marriage, because her father turned him out. She had refused to get his meals ready, and he had had to prepare them himself. She was always wanting to go to her parents. She left him of her own accord, without saying a word to him as she went. He was ready to have her back.
Mary Ann Connor denied the allegations of misconduct between her and Denman. She had heard the Denmans quarrelling, but had never seen any ill-treatment. She corroborated the husband’s story that the wife would not prepare his meals.
James Connor, husband of the previous witness, said that on the occasion when misconduct between his wife and Denman was alleged, they were “playing about.” all four of them, but nothing indecent occurred. They were all laughing and joking about it
The bench dismissed the summons.
