Denaby Developing
New Elementary School to be Opened To-Day.
The growing educational needs Denaby will be better catered for with the opening, to-day by County Alderman H. Dunn (chairman of the West Riding Education Committee), of the new elementary achool.
The new school is built upon up to date lines, and is situate high level in the known New Conisborough. While not the imposing dimensions of the Rossington Street, School it will provide accommodation for 600, pupils, and so relieve the overcrowding both the Rossington Street and Station Road (Conisborough) Schools.
The contract cost of the new school is £6,000, equal to a cost £10 per head- The scheme is larger than was first considered necessary but the county authority decided upon the extension owing increasing growth and population the neighbourhood.
The made up of ten class rooms, a central hall, and necessary adjuncts. It covers, with playground, an area of two acres, purchased at £150 per acre, and provision is also made for the future erection of an infant department. An interesting feature the school establishment is the reservation of large space the southern side the playground for horticultural studies for the children.
The architect is Mr H.L.Smethurst, and the principal contractor Mr. George Downing.
In connection with Denaby, it may be room mentioned that quite recently Parkgate seam of coal was proof, and this, no doubt, will be worked by the colliery company in due course.
