A Gift Turns Up Trumps When Denaby Fancier Lands Federation Prize

Edgar’s blood red hen had only won a couple of pigeon shows at Conisbrough and achieved minor placings in the few places it had entered – but in the first young bird race of 1967 it showed up the best way home, to win for its owner about £100

Competing against 160 birds owned by 144 members of the South Yorkshire Federation, it flew home the winner by one hour.

The birds were liberated from France 500 miles away and the winning time for the bird it was a little over 13 hours, a velocity ratio of 2123. The bird also won the “South Yorkshire times” cup.
